Women's Blouse Alterations overview
Not every shirt fits how you want it to. But at Superior Tailoring and Alterations, we can hem a blouse to give it the proper length, tailor the torso to eliminate bagginess or give a little room, shorten sleeves, bring up shoulders, reduce sleeve bagginess, and shorten the straps so your shirts and blouses look like they were made just for you. All body types shine in a well-fitted blouse.
When a women’s top hangs too long, in most cases, we can hem the bottom so it fits correctly. Women’s shirts are often made from flowy and delicate fabrics so it just depends on the shirt. If it’s a shirt that is tucked in, we remove extra fabric so it doesn’t feel bulky when it’s tucked into pants or a skirt.
Tailor the Torso
When we tailor the torso of a women’s shirt, we are bringing out the natural shape of the women’s body and removing bagginess in the wrong places of the top.
Shorten the Sleeves
Superior Tailoring & Alterations can shorten the sleeves on a blouse or so they aren’t too long. Or, we can shorten them to an arbitrary length to get a desired look, like a ¾ sleeve or something else entirely.
Bring Up the Shoulders
Bringing up the shoulders is one of the most common alterations for women’s blouses. We do this most often for petite women when a blouse doesn’t fit through the chest or neckline because the shoulders are too wide. We remove excess fabric in the shoulders to give the top a new fit.
Reduce Sleeve Bagginess
While this is a less common issue with women’s tops than with men’s shirts, it does happen on occasion that we need to reduce the sleeve bagginess. This alteration often goes hand in hand with tailoring the torso.
Shortening the straps on a blouse or top can bring up the neckline so a top fits more modestly or comfortably. Tops with straps, like spaghetti straps, are made long because while they can be shortened, consumers can’t add length to them.
Our Happy Clients
Rachel listened to me and finished an heirloom that I will cherish the rest of my life. I had part of a quilt that my great-great-grandmother had started for me as a baby. She died before it was finished. I have kept the quilted squares for years. I was always afraid to ruin it but Rachel took it and added her love on this project and as I said it will be a family heirloom that I can pass down to my daughter and so on. Thank you!
Rachel did a great job sewing on my name tapes for my Army uniform! I will be back for any future sewing needs!!
Women's Dress Alteration
Rachel helped me save a floor-length dress I needed to have fixed. After taking it to a different seamstress, my floor-length dress was returned with a botched hemline that was 3 inches shorter in a large area in the back of the dress. When I needed to have the dress fixed with only 2 days before my event, I found Rachel online and called her. She was genuinely concerned and wanted to help. She saw me at 8 pm that same night and had my dress back to me two days later with a professional and beautiful hem! If you need someone to trust with your dress, take it to Rachel!
