SuitS & TuxEDOS
Men's Suit and Tuxedo Alterations
Suits and tuxedos are worn on special occasions when you want to look and feel your best. Of course, that goes beyond the suit itself and involves the fit of the suit. To bring your A-game, you need a suit or tux that fits you completely, and we are here to make that happen!

Suit & Tux Alteration overview
When the pants are too long on a suit or tux, we can hem the bottom so they fit properly. Depending on the suit, the pants have been designed to always need a hem so you could tailor the length to your exact needs.
Taper Leg Width
Suit and tux pants can be tapered to be more form-fitting if the legs are too baggy for your taste. Tapered legs are more of the current trend and we can certainly take an older style of pants and give them an update. We taper the leg along the center seam and create the leg shape you desire.
Bring in the Waistband
If the waistband is too large on a pair of pants, we bring in the waistband so that the pants are no longer too big, but fit just right. This can be a bit more labor-intensive than regular slacks because often there is a metal fastener instead of a button as the fastener. But it’s still absolutely doable.
Expand the Waistband
It’s certainly not possible in all cases, but in many suit pants and tuxes, it’s possible to let out the waistband using the fabric that’s already built into the garment. Some pants have anywhere from a quarter-inch to a full inch or two of room to expand the waistband.
A hole in a pocket can be a nightmare! You certainly don’t want to risk losing your things! Superior Tailoring & Alterations can replace pockets by putting new fabric there and creating a new pocket in the old one’s place.
Zipper Replacement and Repair
Superior Tailoring & Alterations does not do zipper repair because we cannot guarantee that a zipper will work again. We can do a zipper replacement, but because of how time-consuming the process is it is a more costly alteration and often the cost is less to replace the item itself than to replace the zipper.
Shorten the Sleeves
Shortening the sleeves is a common alteration for suits and tuxes. People often buy a jacket for the shoulder width. And we commonly see people who have broad shoulders and their arms don’t match the length of the sleeves. Shortening the sleeves makes the jacket look like it was made for you.
Reduce Sleeve Bagginess
Reducing the sleeve bagginess is another alteration we do on men’s suit and tux jackets. It is a more extensive alteration because all the seams on the sleeve are invisible and we have to come at it from the inside. But reducing sleeve bagginess is an option to make a jacket more form-fitting.
Tailor the Torso
Having a tailored torso is what really gives that sharp, polished look to a suit jacket. To make a jacket more tailored in the torso, we can bring in the seams in the back to accentuate the triangle look found in many men’s backs—broad through the shoulders and narrow through the hips. In a tuxedo, of course we are mindful of all the components present in the back, like tails and vents. Any alteration is in consideration the appearance of those pieces.
We can replace the lining in suit and tux jackets to give a flashier, custom look, or to replace a torn liner in a jacket that you love and want to keep around. Some tuxedo pants are also lined, so we can also replace those liners if needed.
Button Replacement and Reattachment
Every now and then, a button just falls off a jacket. And we are happy to reattach it for you! If you still have the button, this is a simple task. If you don’t have the button, we may need to replace all the buttons on the jacket because most of the time, it is next to impossible to find a matching button.
Our Happy Clients
Rachel listened to me and finished an heirloom that I will cherish the rest of my life. I had part of a quilt that my great-great-grandmother had started for me as a baby. She died before it was finished. I have kept the quilted squares for years. I was always afraid to ruin it but Rachel took it and added her love on this project and as I said it will be a family heirloom that I can pass down to my daughter and so on. Thank you!
Women's Dress Alteration
Rachel helped me save a floor-length dress I needed to have fixed. After taking it to a different seamstress, my floor-length dress was returned with a botched hemline that was 3 inches shorter in a large area in the back of the dress. When I needed to have the dress fixed with only 2 days before my event, I found Rachel online and called her. She was genuinely concerned and wanted to help. She saw me at 8 pm that same night and had my dress back to me two days later with a professional and beautiful hem! If you need someone to trust with your dress, take it to Rachel!
Rachel did a great job sewing on my name tapes for my Army uniform! I will be back for any future sewing needs!!
